Every day, we hear about marine animals trapped in plastic waste - but land animals face dangers too. Recently, wildlife officials freed a deer in Colorado that had spent two years with a tire stuck around its neck.

No one knows how the four-year-old deer got the tire in the first place, but it’s clear that human pollution limited its freedom.

Finding such signs of human impact deep in the wild was shocking. The problem of pollution keeps growing, and it seems unstoppable. Those who rescued the deer did their best to help - initially trying to cut the tire off without harming its antlers. Sadly, that wasn’t possible, and the deer lost its antlers during the rescue. But by spring, it should grow new ones and be free to roam once again.
