A survey by Thailand’s Department of Livestock Development shows that out of 6.7 million registered dogs, 750,000 are homeless — and their numbers keep growing. In Bangkok alone, there are between 100,000 and 300,000 stray dogs without owners. These animals wander the streets, often facing accidents, violence, and harsh weather.
To address this urgent issue, the Thai group Stand for Strays created a practical shelter for stray dogs. What makes it special is that the shelter, called the Allot Model, is made from recycled billboards. Its design allows it to be placed anywhere and protects the dogs from both heat and rain.
These small shelters, made from old or discarded billboards, are shaped like tents. They’re attached to walls and secured on a supporting platform that lifts them slightly off the ground, keeping the dogs safe and clean. This design also keeps the animals dry during rain, letting them sleep comfortably in their own space.
The project is based on the three R’s of environmental care: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Stand for Strays aimed to solve two problems at once — helping homeless dogs while protecting the environment. The shelters use only recycled materials and, since they’re mounted on walls, they don’t harm the surrounding area.
